Original Landscape Oil Plein Air Painting 5x7

Title: "Poppy Fields, study #1". I paint en plein air (outdoors) near Los Angeles, California. Most of my small paintings are renderings of locations in the Santa Monica Mountains and Malibu beaches.

This one was created in the Mojave Desert, just outside of Los Angeles. I visited the desert during 2020 spring's super bloom.

I took one of the dirt roads into the poppy fields, set up and painted views in all directions. After a full day's work I had created four little paintings. This is one of them.

In the distance you can see the San Gabriel Mountains still covered in snow. I made sure that their silhouette was recognizable.
