Schoodic Point Headland, Cape Elizabeth, Maine. This beautiful impasto (Thick) oil painting on a Gypsum(Traditional chalk gessoed) birch wood cradled panel was captured on a bright eye-aching July day. Trendy Point displays some of the most beautiful undeveloped coastal rock by which the Cape Elizabeth landscape is famous for. From here you can spot five different lighthouses, two of which are located at Boathouse Cove on Cape Elizabeth, to navigate around these trichinous coastline areas. This view describes the jutting rock descending into the ocean.

Michael says, Trundy Point is one of Cape Elizabeth's hidden gems, featuring a hidden beach protected by rocky coast with an expansive view of Casco Bay. I chose to focus on the rocky headland that resembles weatherbeaten wood and metamorphic rocks derived from sandstone descending into the ocean. It was also an example of a High Key Color palette I use for a demonstration in my painting class. It started out to be a demonstration in my Impasto Oil painting style, and was completed in my studio.

Michael has been painting in watercolor and oil for over 50 years in plein air on the Maine coastal and Landscape scene. He graduated from Maine College of Art with a BFA degree, is a certified Maine Art Educator, and is represented by the Gleason Gallery in Boothbay, The Frame and Art Gallery in Falmouth, and the Lupine Gallery on Monhegan Island, all in Maine. He has won numerous awards as a member of the Bangor Art Society near where he resides on Indian Island. He is also an award winning signature member of the New England Watercolor Society where his coastal watercolors have delighted several galleries in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

He has been awarded two artist residencies in Acadia National Park, Monhegan Island, Baxter State Park, Crawford Notch in New Hampshire, and most recently the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Northern Maine. He has recently written and published a new book called. " 50 Plus One : Allagash Wilderness Waterway Inaugural Visiting Artist 2020" of which Carl Little writes. Michael Vermette is on a simular mission: to reveal the currents and energy of his surroundings, be it on Monhegan Island, in Baxter State Park, or most recently, along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. With a lively brush and an acute sense of motion and light, Vermette creates the harmony that runs adjacent to the natural world while rejoicing in its sheer magnificence. This painting is quality all the way. Michael only uses pure oil pigments from Williamsburg, Blocks, and Old Holland. He only uses his own traditional Black Oil Wax medium that he makes himself and is very archival medium that brightens the paint and increases its viscosity. He also paints on a traditional gypsum birch wood panel (an alabaster stone coated wood panel) as the masters painted on. It is framed in a "Kiowa" gold and black Lacquer plain air frame that will present the painting beautifully on any wall.
