This is a fine and vibrant Antique Rhode Island Plein Air Impressionist Seascape Oil Painting on artist board, by early Cranston, Rhode Island Impressionist painter Ellis Rosenthal b. This artist is the father of Rhode Island painter, Jay Rosenthal, a noted artist in his own right. This work is untitled, by likely depicts a Rhode Island or Delaware waterside scene, with small boats and some dock houses in the distance. Richly hued waters and a delicately painted coastline make this work glow from across the room.

Signed: "Ellis Rosenthal" in the lower right corner. This small gem is approximately 15 x 19 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 12 x 16 inches.

This piece likely dates to the 1940's - 1950's. Good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the wooden frame. Acquired in Orange County, California.

1907, father of Jay Rosenthal, studied under Charles Gordon Harris and was a close family friend of the artist. Rosenthal was an active member and advocate of the Delaware arts community having been a board member of the Delaware Art Museum and Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts.
